A delicate fine Tuscan wine with a wonderful aromatic expression
The estate
A great Florentine family devoted to the production of Tuscan wines, the Frescobaldi family has been established in this land of history for over 1,000 years. Their influence grew considerably during the period of the Republic of Florence, when the city's banking industry developed. The family was notably involved in the great works of art of the time, such as the Santa Trinita Bridge and the Santo Spirito Basilica. Located in the Montalcino area, to the south-west of the medieval city, Frescobaldi - Tenuta Luce Della Vite, one of the family's estates, produces some of Italy's finest wines.
The vineyard
The estate covers 192 hectares, 55 of which are planted with vines, with an average density of 6,100 vines per hectare. At between 350 and 420 metres above sea level, Tenuta Luce Della Vite has one of the highest vineyards in the area. The soil is rich in pebbles and sediments but low in organic matter, and the south-facing slope provides ideal conditions for producing great Tuscan wines. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted in the lower part of the vineyard, on the clay soils.
The vintage
A cold winter with little rain preceded a dry, mild spring. Fortunately, the frost on 8 April did no damage to the estate's vineyards, thanks to the high altitude of the Sangiovese and the late budburst of the Merlot.
The summer was hot and dry until the rainy spells in mid-July, when temperatures dropped and ripening began. The rains at the end of August brought a drop in temperature and a temperature range between day and night that was ideal for maintaining its aromatic freshness and ensuring that the grapes ripened properly. Harvesting began on 7 September for the Merlot and in the second week for the Sangiovese, under very good weather conditions, with no rainfall and wide temperature variations.
Winemaking and ageing
Vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Fermentation over 10 days followed by skin maceration of 20 days. Malolactic fermentation. Ageing for 12 months in barrels.
Blend
Merlot and Sangiovese.

The wine has a beautiful ruby colour.

The nose is intense, mingling fruity (red fruit, wild blackberry) and floral (violet) fragrances.
