Description
A white wine from Bolgheri with a seductive freshness and aromatic richness
The estate
The Grattamacco estate in Bolgheri, Tuscany, was founded in 1977. This "Super Tuscan" has belonged to the Bertarelli family since 2002. Grattamacco is one of the most famous Italian wines.
The wine
Grattamacco 2020 is a Tuscan wine made from vineyards in the Bolgheri appellation which are located at an altitude of 100 metres and on a natural terrace overlooking the sea. The vines are 37 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of limestone, marl deposits and white clay. This terroir benefits from a mild Mediterranean climate and enjoys regular sea breezes.
The vintage
A particularly rainy June preceded a sunny and dry summer. Although the rainfall recorded at the end of August boosted ripening, the mildness during September favoured the gradual and even development of the vineyard. The harvest was carried out in mid-September, at different times depending on the ripeness levels, the age of the vines and the plots’ sun exposure.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in barrels (1/3) and the rest in steel tanks. Aged for 6 months with regular stirring of the lees.
The blend
Vermentino (100%).
