Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2025 from Jean-Charles Fagot
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a pale yellow colour with brilliant highlights, typical of the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of ripe white and yellow fruits, peach and apricot, accompanied by notes of citrus and white flowers. Touches of almond, hazelnut and subtle toasty nuances complete the bouquet, set against a mineral backdrop evoking chalk and flint.
Palate
The palate is full and generous, driven by a lively acidity that brings tension and freshness. The texture, rich without being heavy, extends into a long, saline and mineral finish, where citrus returns along with a hint of mint.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru pairs beautifully with fine seafood such as pan-seared scallops, roasted langoustines or lobster in a light sauce. It also works very well with delicate-fleshed fish prepared with butter or in a cream sauce, as well as with white meats served with cream and mushrooms. Among cheeses, it finds a lovely balance with hard cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and Cellaring
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2025 is ideally enjoyed chilled, at a temperature between 11 and 13°C, in order to fully reveal its mineral freshness and structure. There is no need to decant it: a brief airing in a carafe is enough to open up its bouquet before serving.
A Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Hameau de Blagny" True to the Finesse of the Côte de Beaune
The Estate
Founded in 1920 in Corpeau, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, Domaine Jean-Charles Fagot is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot, the fifth generation of the family to work in the region. A winemaker and restaurateur at the Auberge du Vieux Vigneron, he tends a family vineyard of three to four hectares, complemented by a négociant-éleveur activity. Committed to sustainable viticulture (lutte raisonnée), he crafts white wines from Chardonnay renowned for their clarity and balance, as exemplified by his Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin cuvées.
The Vineyard
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Hameau de Blagny" comes from the climat of the same name, one of the most renowned premiers crus of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, enjoying a particularly favourable exposure in the heart of the commune's finest slopes. The clay-limestone soils characteristic of this part of the Côte de Beaune give the wines a pronounced minerality. The vineyard of Domaine Jean-Charles Fagot is managed according to the principles of lutte raisonnée, limiting phytosanitary treatments to what is strictly necessary in order to preserve the health of the soils and vines.
Vinification and Ageing
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru "Hameau de Blagny" 2025 is vinified using a traditional and natural approach, specific to Domaine Jean-Charles Fagot. Ageing takes place in oak foudres and barrels, generally for twelve to fourteen months, allowing the woody notes to be gradually integrated without masking the purity of the fruit.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune.
