An ample and fruity white Sancerre from the Caillottes terroir

The estate

Founded in 1969 when Joseph gave his name to the family estate, Maison Joseph Mellot today cultivates vines in the Centre-Loire. Managed since 2005 by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, accompanied by her sons Armand and Adrien, this family estate is present in all the Centre-Loire AOCs. Joseph Mellot embodies a know-how passed down since 1513.

The vineyard

The La Grande Châtelaine cuvée comes from a 2.4-hectare vineyard planted on the clay-limestone Caillottes terroir, characteristic of the Sancerre appellation. The vines benefit from mechanical soil tillage and are mechanically harvested in early September.

The vintage

The 2022 winter was characterized by mildness punctuated by a few frosts. The spring, early and warm, gave way to a dry and scorching summer. Autumn, for its part, was warm and rainy.

Winemaking and aging

After direct pressing in a pneumatic press with juice selection, La Grande Châtelaine 2022 undergoes cold settling. Fermentation takes place in fine-grained oak barrels from the Bertranges and Saint-Palais forests. Aging lasts for 11 months in barrels with regular stirring of the lees, followed by a minimum of 8 months in vats.

Grape variety

This white Loire wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc
