Château Suduiraut, a Sauternes Premier Cru Classé, has existed since the 16th century. This château, with its gardens designed by the landscape architect André Le Nôtre and its 91 hectares of certified High Environmental Value vineyards, was taken over by AXA Millésimes in 1992, which insists on preserving and promoting the known-how and culture of Sauternes wines.
This Blanc Sec de Suduiraut 2020 stems from a specific terroir, mainly composed of Semillon and made up of fine sandy gravel, which gives this Bordeaux dry white wine both a fresh and rich aromatic expression.
The year 2020 began with a very rainy winter. In March, the total amount of rainfall was higher than half the annual average. The mild weather favoured an early budbreak. The end of March was marked by a noticeable drop in temperature and a day of frost (March 27th). The rest of the season, rainy and relatively mild, increased the pressure of mildew and caused coulure during the flowering period. The water reserves enabled the vineyard to withstand the dry and hot weather in July. The rain in August salvaged the vines and boosted the ripening of the grapes. Warm days combined with cool nights preserved the aromatic levels of the grapes and refine their ripeness level.
