Vinum

Dark-fruited, showing depth, smoky notes, mineral expression; taut, compact, juicy, long and red-fruited, with a bitter note on the finish.

Decanter

Brambly fruit, plummy and lively on the nose. Quite perfumed. Straight and sharp on the palate, this is brilliant in its direction and movement, lifted but with a certain weight and density to it, not plush, more grippy and slightly mineral than Chappelle which is more charming right now, but this has great sleek muscles. Stylish and streamlined but it does expand slowly and feels like it has underlying power. Nicely structured, fresh and clean, good level of balancing acidity and a polished finish. Nice stuff. 3.8 pH, 3.7 total acidity.

Flowers, red with black currants, smoke, cigar wrappers, and Indian spice create the aromatic profile. Medium-bodied, elegant, smoky, and loaded with tobacco, leafy herbs, juicy plums, and cherries, the wine is bright, long, and energetic, with a smoked herb, currant, and cigar oriented finish. This is definitely a baby Haut Brion that will drink well, quite early in life. The wine blends 55.5% Merlot, 40.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3.6% Cabernet Franc. 14.2% ABV, 3.7 pH. Drink 2027-2045. 92-94 Pts.

More intense and more deeply coloured than the Chapelle, this is inky, cassis, spiced bilberry, with a slow-build tannic architecture and the most gorgeous slate scrape. Exceptional vintage of this wine, one to savour.

94-96. Barrel Sample. Showing some of typical seriousness of Haut-Brion, the wine has structure and a firm layer of tannins. With its smoky aroma, it has spice and a core of dryness.

A balanced and precise Pessac-Léognan Second Red Wine

The estate

The oldest of the Bordeaux Grands Crus, the Château Haut-Brion benefits from a rich heritage built over five centuries of history. Founded in 1533 by Jean de Pontac in the Graves region, the wine of Château Haut-Brion was quickly coveted and appreciated by the greatest monarchs of Europe. In 1663, Samuel Pepys, a member of the English Parliament, unknowingly contributed to the success of Château Haut-Brion through his diary, writing " And there, I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan which had a very particular good taste that I had never encountered... ". The legend was born. First Grand Cru Classé outside Médoc in 1855 and recognized Cru Classé in the Official Classification of Graves Wines in 1959, Château Haut-Brion continues to write the legend of the greatest wines in the world by confirming, vintage after vintage, its exceptional consistency. Second Wine of the Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Haut-Brion, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion follows in the footsteps of its elder. Combining all the qualities of a great wine, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion offers more immediate accessibility.

The vineyard

A reference among the great Pessac-Léognan wines and located in the heart of the Pessac agglomeration, Château Haut-Brion has an exceptional terroir on soils composed of multicoloured gravels, producing sumptuous, elegant, precise wines with incredible consistency from one vintage to another.

The vintage

A cool and rainy winter precedes a spring whose alternation of warm days with relative humidity promotes both the rapid and homogeneous budding of the vineyard and significant mildew pressure controlled by the know-how and responsiveness of the teams. The flowering is qualitative and suggests a generous harvest. Carried out under warm and clement conditions, the harvest reveals fresh and aromatic white grapes as well as red grapes ideally combining concentration and liveliness with a beautiful fruity structure.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing in barrels (of which 22.5% are new).
