Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the 2024 Blanc from Les Vignes Oubliées
Tasting notes
Appearance
The colour is a pale yellow, enhanced by delicate golden highlights and beautiful clarity.
Nose
The bouquet opens with lovely fruity and floral intensity. It reveals aromas of white and stone fruits, such as nectarine and apricot, mingled with citrus notes such as preserved lemon. The whole is enriched by touches of white flowers, almond, honey and subtle toasty nuances.
Palate
The attack is supple and generous, leading into a rich, velvety mid-palate. The palate is perfectly balanced by a refreshing tension, stretching into a persistent finish marked by beautiful minerality and noble bitterness.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs ideally with seafood such as scallops, langoustines or roasted fish. It is also a wonderful match for white meats in cream sauce, dishes with Mediterranean accents, or a lightly matured goat's cheese.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment of the 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, with possible decanting while young. This wine can be enjoyed now, but has the structure needed to age favourably in the cellar until around 2034.
The Balance and Freshness of a White Wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Officially founded in 2008, Les Vignes Oubliées is located in the Languedoc, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière. Born from a desire to safeguard old high-altitude plots left to abandonment, this collaborative project is now run by Jean-Baptiste Granier. Working alongside local farmers, the winemaker brings out the best of a singular terroir to produce wines that combine Mediterranean generosity with remarkable freshness. Committed to organic farming and a respectful approach, the estate has quickly established itself as an essential reference in the region, acclaimed by critics.
The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this cuvée cover just 1.5 hectares within a 15-hectare estate. Located on the foothills of the Larzac, between 300 and 400 metres in altitude, these old vines, approximately 45 years old, are rooted in soils composed of sandstone and schist. Historically part of the Coteaux du Languedoc area, this terroir benefits from a contrasting climate, enjoying Mediterranean warmth by day and cool winds by night. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, without the use of synthetic molecules, and the harvest is exclusively by hand.
Winemaking and ageing
After rigorous sorting in the vineyard and at the winery, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. Fermentations take place under controlled temperature, exclusively with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for approximately twelve months in a combination of demi-muids and concrete eggs, enhancing aromatic complexity and texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne, sometimes complemented by a small proportion of Carignan Blanc.
