Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 from Louis Jadot
Tasting notes
Colour
This red wine displays a deep, intense garnet colour, with violet highlights in its youth that will evolve towards coppery hues with time.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and generous, blending ripe black and red fruit aromas with darker notes of liquorice, spice and brushwood. With aeration, subtle touches of undergrowth and smoked meat enrich this deep nose.
Palate
On the palate, this cru stands out for its full-bodied, meaty profile. The mouthfeel is broad and dense, supported by a tannic framework that is both firm and ripe. The remarkably long finish stretches out over delicious spicy and woodland notes.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, as well as with full-flavoured game such as venison, hare or wild boar. It will also elevate fine poultry in sauce or dishes featuring woodland mushrooms such as porcini, truffles and morels.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy the Chambertin Grand Cru 2022, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, decanting it while young to soften its structure. Built to last, this wine needs to rest in the cellar for around five years before being opened, and will develop magnificently until around 2042, or even beyond under optimal storage conditions.
A delicate and aromatic Chambertin Grand Cru
The estate
Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. Managing a vast vineyard of around 170 hectares, the estate has belonged to the American Kopf family since 1985. Now run by Thibault Gagey and Thomas Seiter, the house stands out for its environmental commitment, certified Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3, as well as for its mastery of its own cooperage. Combining tradition with an international outlook, Louis Jadot produces wines that express the richness of Burgundy's terroirs with great fidelity.
The vineyard
The vineyard from which this Chambertin comes is located in the north of the Côte de Nuits, in the famous village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines flourish on a gentle, east-facing slope, rooted in perfectly drained clay-limestone soils. Cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, without any herbicides and with deep soil work, the plots benefit from plant material of great genetic diversity, sourced from the estate's own nurseries.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage follows in the line of warm vintages in Burgundy. Marked by abundant sunshine and a few episodes of drought, the year favoured excellent ripeness of the berries. The earlier harvest made it possible to pick rich, concentrated grapes while preserving a fine natural balance.
Vinification and ageing
The harvest is exclusively by hand, carried out in small crates. After rigorous sorting on a table and systematic destemming, the Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 is vinified as close to the plots as possible using indigenous yeasts. Long macerations of three to four weeks, with regular punching down of the cap, allow for optimal extraction. The wine is then aged for around 18 months in oak barrels made by the house's own cooperage, refining the wine's powerful structure.
