Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 by Louis Jadot

Tasting

Appearance

With a deep and rich ruby hue, the color evolves toward subtle garnet highlights. The black cherry shade reveals remarkable depth, while the crystalline clarity attests to the quality of the winemaking.

Nose

The bouquet is complex and captivating. Intense red fruit aromas dominate elegantly, particularly cherry and raspberry, accompanied by delicate floral notes. Earthy and truffle nuances add further depth, while hints of vanilla and spice reflect masterful oak aging.

Palate

The palate impresses with its remarkable harmony. Silky, structured tannins are balanced by a vibrant acidity that brings freshness and elegance. Concentrated red fruit flavors unfold, underpinned by notes of cocoa and black pepper. The lingering finish underscores the finesse and complexity of this vintage.

Food and wine pairings

This powerful and opulent grand cru pairs perfectly with rich red meats and savory dishes. It is an ideal companion for feathered or furred game served in sauce, rib steak, braised lamb or lamb in sauce. More adventurous enthusiasts may also pair it with pike or tuna fillet in a red wine sauce. For cheeses, opt for full-flavored cow's milk varieties such as Époisses, Ami du Chambertin or Cîteaux.

Serving and storage

The Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 is best enjoyed at a temperature of 59 to 61°F. This grand cru boasts an excellent aging potential of at least 10 years.

A Burgundy grand cru of remarkable elegance

The estate

Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot estate is part of a family tradition dating back to 1794. Since 1985, the property has been owned by the Kopf family, proprietors of Kobrand Wine & Spirits, while retaining full operational autonomy. Now led by Thomas Seiter as chairman and Thibault Gagey as managing director, the house controls approximately 270 hectares of vineyards across Burgundy. Louis Jadot stands out for its dual role as both négociant and producer, crafting wines from 150 different appellations. The house favors a non-interventionist approach, allowing the terroir to express itself fully. In 2024, it obtained organic certification for the parcels cultivated under the auspices of Domaine Louis Jadot.

The vineyard

This Chambertin comes from vineyards located on the famous slope that is home to the grands crus and premiers crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. These exceptional plots offer remarkable richness and complexity, benefiting from a unique terroir that gives the wine its characteristic power and elegance.

Winemaking and aging

The Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 benefited from fermentation accompanied by an extended maceration. A portion of the wine was aged in French oak barrels, allowing its aromatic complexity to develop. Bottling was carried out without fining or filtration, thus preserving the full authenticity of the terroir.
