The estate
Officially founded in 1859, although its roots go back to 1794, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. At the head of a vast vineyard of nearly 280 hectares, a large part of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to the terroir, crowned by organic certification in 2024 for its estate-owned vineyards. Today led by Thomas Seiter, with Frédéric Barnier as technical director, the House perpetuates a philosophy of minimal intervention to reveal the authenticity of each plot.
The vineyard
Located in the north of the Côte de Beaune, the Savigny-Les-Beaune appellation is home to the prestigious Clos des Guettes. This plot of approximately one hectare enjoys an ideal south-south-east exposure and stretches between 220 and 360 metres in altitude. The vines thrive on a light, low-fertility soil composed of limestone, gravel and stones. This demanding terroir drives the root system deep down, giving the grapes exceptional aromatic concentration and a remarkable mineral signature.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er cru "Clos des Guettes" Famille Gagey 2023 begins with manual harvesting in small crates, followed by a rigorous sorting. The grapes benefit from gentle pneumatic pressing before direct fermentation in oak barrels, crafted by the Cadus cooperage, which belongs to the estate. Aging continues on fine lees with regular bâtonnage for fifteen to eighteen months. Approximately one third of the barrels used are new, helping to preserve the balance and purity of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
