Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Les Granits 2024 blanc de M. Chapoutier
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a brilliant golden yellow color with beautiful luminous intensity.
Nose
The nose opens with pronounced minerality, closely intertwined with elegant floral notes of honeysuckle and lily. With aeration, more complex hints of beeswax, honey, and subtle spices reminiscent of Tabasco emerge.
Palate
The attack is broad and perfectly balanced. The palate unfolds a generous texture supported by a structuring freshness that energizes the whole. The typical minerality of its terroir is present, along with very fine tannins. The finish, remarkably persistent, lingers on delicious honeyed and spicy notes.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate seafood, such as dill-marinated salmon or pike-perch fillet with beurre blanc. It also enhances roasted poultry, dishes based on white vegetables or mushrooms, as well as fresh goat cheeses such as Picodon.
Serving and cellaring
With remarkable aging potential, Les Granits 2024 can evolve and be enjoyed until around 2084 for vintages stored under optimal conditions.
The mineral and floral expression of a Saint-Joseph white wine
The estate
Founded in 1808 in Tain, the Maison M. Chapoutier is a true institution of the Rhône Valley. Initially named Maison Calvet et Compagnie, it adopted its definitive name in 1955. Today, Michel Chapoutier leads the estate, actively supported by his children Mathilde and Maxime. A pioneer and visionary, he initiated the estate’s conversion to biodynamic viticulture as early as 1991. The estate is committed to revealing the authenticity of each terroir through agricultural practices that respect natural cycles, placing the brand among the most admired in the world.
The vineyard
The vines that give rise to this cuvée flourish on the steep slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation, on the right bank of the river. This demanding terroir, cultivated on terraces supported by stone walls known as "chaillées," benefits from both continental and Mediterranean climates. The oldest vines, located on the southern slopes of Tournon, sink their roots into soils composed of large-crystal granite. This unique geology gives the grapes remarkable precision and minerality.
The vintage
The year 2024 required constant vigilance. After a particularly mild winter that led to early budbreak, the vineyard suffered severe frost episodes in April. From May to July, heavy rainfall and cool temperatures created significant fungal pressure and reduced yields. Fortunately, a warmer, drier August helped to restore vine health. The cool nights of September ultimately ensured optimal ripening, preserving a fine level of acidity.
Winemaking and aging
For Les Granits 2024, the berries are fully destemmed before gentle pressing. The must then undergoes cold settling for 24 to 48 hours. Fermentation takes place half in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and half in demi-muids. The wine is then aged on lees for eight to ten months, with regular bâtonnage to add textural complexity, before the two batches are blended prior to bottling.
Grape variety
Les Granits 2024 blanc de M. Chapoutier is made from 100% Marsanne.
