Description
An exceptional gift set bringing together three great Venetian wines by Masi
The estate
Masi, a historic wine producer in Valpolicella in Veneto, remains family-owned today. The estate is structured around historic sites in the Valpolicella area. A pioneer of innovation, Masi has mastered appassimento and developed innovative winemaking techniques. The House is renowned for its iconic wines and its expertise in crafting wines from the Venetian region.
The gift set
Created exclusively for Millesima, the “Masi Appassimento Collection” case contains 2 bottles each of 3 great red wines from Veneto. Singular both in their blends and in the length of their appassimento (raisining), these cuvées are a refined invitation to (re)discover the expression of great Italian wines as well as the know-how of this illustrious estate.
The wines
The 3 wines featured in this exceptional set share two common points: an outstanding Italian terroir and an ancestral winemaking technique, appassimento.
This traditional technique from Veneto involves drying the grapes after harvest in well-ventilated lofts called “fruttai.” This natural drying process, carried out on bamboo racks for several weeks or months, concentrates the grapes’ sugars, aromas, and tannins.
Costasera 2020
This Amarone della Valpolicella Classico wine comes from vines (Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara) about 35 years old, planted on sun-exposed slopes. Its dark ruby color and intense bouquet of stewed fruits, notably plum and cherry, captivate throughout the tasting. On the palate, it offers a beautiful fruit expression with notes of coffee and cocoa, striking a perfect balance between structure and finesse.
Costasera Riserva 2018
Aged for three years in fine wood casks, Masi’s 2018 Costasera Riserva is a majestic and complex Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. Its deep red hue and intense bouquet of fruit, cinnamon, and hints of vanilla captivate the senses. On the palate, it is warm, with flavors of stewed fruit, sweet spices, and candied cherries, enhanced by notes of clove and a long finish. The blend is composed of Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta, and Molinara.
Campofiorin 2021
Crafted from traditional grape varieties (Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara), this wine undergoes double fermentation, enhancing its complexity and structure. Its intense ruby-red color precedes a bouquet combining ripe cherries and sweet spices. Round and generous, the palate reveals silky tannins, intense aromas of cherries and red fruits, balanced by refreshing acidity and a persistent finish.
