Decanter

Bright on the nose, the palate is dark and quite serious. No massive acidity nor brightness, but there is a lovely refinement to the fruit – it feels sculpted and poised, if not showy and bright. A linear style with a push from start to finish, then a strong menthol character pushing things on the tail.

James Suckling

A rich red with plum and berry aromas and flavors, with some walnuts. Medium body and creamy tannins. Hints of berries and leaves, as well as dark chocolate. Solid character. From organically grown grapes. Same owner as La Lagune. Drink after 2024.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby red, purple hues, some brightening on the rim. A leafy-vegetal bouquet, red berry fruit, citrus zest, tobacco nuances. Slender, some nougat, slightly bitter, a salty, astringent finish.

Jane Anson

Jane Anson

Sweet cedar and smoked black cherry fruits, with plenty of dark spices. This is enjoyable with upfront fruit, well-worked tannins and a sense of lift.

Vertdevin

The nose is fruity and offers a certain juiciness, power, and purity of fruit. It reveals notes of pulpy/bright blackcurrant, bright cherry and, more subtly, wild strawberry, combined with touches of nutmeg and pepper, hints of spices, and a subtle hint of fresh tobacco. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers freshness, minerality, a mineral backbone, and a fine smoothness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/tangy blackberry, juicy/tangy Bigarreau cherry and, more lightly, redcurrant, combined with touches of lily and cornflower, hints of nutmeg, as well as discreet toasted and mocha notes. The tannins are flavorful and refined. Good length.

Deeply colored wine with a fruity, moderately intense nose; a pleasant palate, flavorful with a sappy finish. Medium body and length.

Description

A fresh and complex Haut-Médoc Second Wine

The estate

Magnificently situated on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château La Lagune is one of the finest estates in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has put her talent to work to raise Château La Lagune to the top.

The vineyard

A major name among the wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château La Lagune oversees an 80-hectare vineyard planted on a gravelly hilltop. The vines, on average 20 years old, are managed with organic and biodynamic practices.

The wine

The estate’s Second Wine, Moulin de La Lagune showcases the style of a great Haut-Médoc wine.

The vintage

The conditions at the beginning of the growth cycle were seasonal and relatively dry. Following budburst recorded at the end of March, the growth development was slow and regular. Bright weather lasted from the beginning of July to mid-August. When it was time for the harvest, the vineyard’s health was perfect and the grapes were of a great quality.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvests done by hand with sorting at the plot, completed by a manual and optical sorting in the vatting room. Vinification with destemming at 100%, maceration of 3 weeks with gentle extractions. Malolactic fermentation. Ageing for 12 months in French oak casks of which 40% were of new wood.

Blend

Merlot (60%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (33%)
Petit Verdot (7%)
