Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Opus One 2023
Tasting
Nose
Opus One 2023 opens with a complex and elegant bouquet, blending notes of red fruit, cherry blossom and dried violet. Hints of vanilla, graphite, forest floor and tobacco add further depth, hinting at a fine structure to come.
Palate
The palate captivates with its balance and finesse, carried by silky tannins. Aromas of elderberry and blackcurrant unfold generously, complemented by touches of black pepper and chocolate-coated orange peel. The long, refined finish reveals notes of red plum and sweet oak, showing excellent aging potential.
The richness and refinement of an exceptional Californian red wine
The estate
Opus One was born from the shared vision of two great figures in the world of wine: Baron Philippe de Rothschild, master of Château Mouton Rothschild, and Robert Mondavi, a renowned American winemaker.
The vineyard
A true icon among California wines, Opus One comes from vineyards nestled at the heart of the Oakville appellation. This authentic "Grand Cru" embodies the meeting of two winemaking heritages, united in the pursuit of an exceptional wine of impeccable quality.
The vintage
The year 2023 in the Oakville appellation was marked by mild and balanced climatic conditions: abundant rainfall early in the season, a cool summer without excessive heat, and a serene harvest. This ideal context allowed for a slow, even ripening, ensuring grapes with remarkable freshness and balance.
