The RWT project, or "Red Winemaking Trial" started in 1995 at the Penfolds Estates. This project aimed at developing a red wine from Syrah vines of a single region, the Barossa Valley. The result is a very fruity wine, supple, of a more elegant and finer texture. The RWT Shiraz form the 2006 vintage reveals a rich nose of spices, blueberry, licorice and olive, in a dark red dress. On the palate, the tannins are velvety, the texture is dense and flavours of fruits, espresso and licorice remain very present. The finale is long and leaves the palate coated with dark chocolate, olive and blackberry.
