Yattarna Chardonnay 2014 from Penfolds : a complex and fruity Australian white wine
A Chardonnay white wine, the Yattarna Chardonnay from Penfolds comes from a blend of several Australian vineyards (Derwent Valley, Central Highlands, Adelaide Hills). The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 8 months, 70% in new barrels and 30% in barrels of one previous wine.
The Yattarna Chardonnay 2014 from Penfolds has a golden-white colour with greenish hues, developing aromas of white flowers, white-fleshed fruits, mandarin flowers, peach nectar and wild thyme. It then releases on the nose scents of nougats, along with praline white chocolate, before offering subtle marine notes and a beautiful minerality. On the palate, the Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2014 reveals flavours of white peach and lemon essence, along with tasty touches of cashew nuts, sesame, cream of chick peas, as well as notes of graphite and the acidity of wet stone.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The complex, chalky, crushed stones/mineral-nosed 2014 Chardonnay Yattarna opens out to perfumed notes of orange blossoms, peach kernels, grapefruit and lemon zest plus some matchstick and honey-nut nuances. Very fine and intense in the mouth, it is taut yet multilayered, with a fine light to medium body and amazing length. This is right up there with Australia's best and that is saying something given the caliber of Aussie Chardonnays today! By the way, the fruit this year was sourced 73% from Tasmania and 27% from Adelaide Hills.
