The Re Manfredi vineyards are located to the north of the Basilicata region, in the province of Potenza in Italy. Situated in Venosa, the birthplace of King Manfred I of Sicily, son of Frederic II and of Bianca Lancia, the Re Manfredi estate was founded in 1998 by the Montrone family. It is today part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini, the largest wine group in Italy.
In the heart of the DOC Aglianico del Vulture appellation, the Re Manfredi vineyards enjoy an exceptional terroir. Nearly 120 hectares of vines are cultivated on this land, divided into different plots, 40 hectares of which are dedicated to the flagship grape variety of the region: Aglianico. Perched on volcanic soils, mixed with clay and tuff, the Aglianico, Müller Thurgau and Traminer grape varieties flourish on this rare terroir.
The vines at the base of Mont Vultur benefit from abundant sunshine and a continental climate. Cold winters and hot summers with significant variation in daytime and nighttime temperatures are representative of the DOC Aglianico del Vulture appellation. These conditions are highly favourable for the cultivation of the vines, which are 5 to 40 years old and Guyot-pruned.
The Re Manfredi estates places strong emphasis on the Aglianico grape variety in wines produced under the DOC Aglianico del Vulture appellation. A DOCG Aglianico del Vulture wine, Serpara embodies all the typicity of the Basilicata region.
