Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Very V.J. Maturation 2026 Edition 2012-2015-2016 Tissot Casks by Michel Couvreur

Tasting notes

Appearance
A bright, light amber hue.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is distinctive and delicate, led by notes of curry, hazelnut, fresh walnut and sotolon.

Palate
The attack is particularly soft and silky, offering an elegant texture that coats the palate. The finish is very bright and spicy, extended by intense sotolon notes and subtle touches of chanterelle.

Pairings and Tasting Occasions
While this rare edition calls above all for neat, contemplative sipping to fully appreciate its complexity, the whiskies in this range are traditionally enjoyed as a digestif. They also pair beautifully with hard-textured, matured cheeses from the Jura or chocolate desserts.

Mixology
This exceptional product is a spirit meant for pure sipping. It is best enjoyed neat, perhaps with a small drop of water to open up the aromas, and is in no way intended for mixology.

The elegance of a great matured whisky by Michel Couvreur

Maison Michel Couvreur: a pioneer of maturation in Burgundy
Founded by the Belgian Michel Couvreur, the eponymous house settled in 1956 in Bouze-lès-Beaune, in Burgundy. A pioneer in its field, it is built on a distinctive and bold philosophy: while the distillate is born in the still, the whisky is truly made in the cask. The company imports Scotch and French whisky to mature it in the Molet cellars, carved into limestone rock, which offer exceptional humidity conditions. Today, the estate is run by Cyril Deschamps and Alexandra Couvreur-Deschamps, together with cellar master Jean-Arnaud Frantzen. Together, they carry on this artisanal legacy by favouring long maturations in rare casks, without cold filtration, elevating the house to the status of an essential reference for lovers of exceptional spirits.

Very V.J. Maturation 2026 Edition: a rarity under Jura influence
The non-vintage Very V.J. Maturation 2026 Edition 2012-2015-2016 Tissot Casks is an exceptional single malt Scotch whisky from the prestigious Raretés range. This spirit is the result of a meticulous blend of classic malt-style distillates from 2012, 2015 and 2016, originally distilled at 70% ABV. Its remarkable character stems from a 10-year maturation in vin jaune casks from Stéphane Tissot's emblematic Jura estate, including casks from the Vin Jaune W, Les Bruyères and Mailloche cuvées.

These barrels, delivered unrinsed with their lees and flor still present, deeply imbue the distillate with the soul of Savagnin and the oxidative hallmarks typical of the Jura. The maturation took place mainly in the humid areas of the house's Burgundy cellars, encouraging an evaporation that concentrates the aromas while lending the liquid great silkiness. Scheduled for bottling in July 2026, this limited edition illustrates a perfect mastery of the interplay between wood, wine and malt.
