Teroldego Rotaliano Superiore Wines : Key Points

Located in the Trentino Alto Adige region, the Teroldego Rotaliano Superiore appellation occupies one of the few plains of the region, in the north of Trentino, in an area called Campo Rotaliano at the junction of the Adie Valley and the Noce River. This small appellation takes its name from its local grape variety, Teroldego, affectionately called the "Prince of Trentino." This grape variety, which has been traced back to the Middle Ages, had almost fallen to the wayside, relegated to the production of lower-quality wines. But in recent years it has been given a new lease of life by producers who have revolutionised the methods of cultivation and vinification of this variety. Teroldego is now the source of some of the greatest wines in northern Italy.

Teroldego produces very fresh, very fruity wines with a strong colour. Often combined with barrel ageing, it can be very fine with a velvety texture, aromas of black fruits (black cherry, blackberry) and herbs. The superiore in the name of Teroldego Rotaliano Superiore means that yields are reduced in order to produce more concentrated, deeper wines with a slightly higher alcohol content than the standard Teroldego Rotaliano appellation.
