A full-bodied and balanced Italian wine from Trentino-Alto Adige
The Producer
Located in the heart of the Alpine valleys, Tenuta San Leonardo stretches along the Adige river south of Trento in Italy. The Alps rise on both sides of the vineyards, which are situated in this powerful and picturesque landscape. Ancient, the origins of Tenuta San Leonardo date back to the 11th century. Founded in 1724, Tenuta San Leonardo is owned by the Marchesi Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga family.
The Vineyard
This estate in Trentino-Alto Adige covers nearly 300 hectares, including 30 hectares of vineyards located at altitudes between 150 and 300 meters. Merlot is planted on gravel-rich soils, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère are grown on sandier soils with neutral pH.
The Wine
Terre di San Leonardo is a Vigneti delle Dolomiti wine, produced from vines aged between 3 and 25 years.
Vinification and Aging
Fermentation occurs spontaneously, followed by a maceration period of 12 to 15 days in cement tanks with regular pump-overs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months, evenly divided between cement tanks and second and third-fill French oak barrels. Finally, it rests for six months in the bottle before being released onto the market.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenère.
