The elegance and authenticity of an exceptional Priorat wine

In the mystical land of Priorat with its black slate llicorella soils, Carthusian monks were among the first to cultivate the vines here as early as 1095. Salmos, the iconic mythical brand from Bodegas Torres, means "psalm” and it pays tribute to those pioneers. In 1996, the Torres family decided to conquer the Priorat lands located in Catalonia, Spain when they realized the potential of the vineyards. Salmos was then born.

The Bodegas Torres Salmos 2014 is a vintage that showcases all the freshness and elegance of Priorat wines. It is a blend of the typical Priorat varieties, Cariñena (Carignan), Garnacha tinta (Grenache) and Syrah, all which grow on an exceptional terroir that reveal the wine’s unique personality.

The elegant and intensely aromatic bouquet explodes with notes of ripe fruit that seem almost candied, along with black cherry, kirsch and garrigue herb aromas. On the palate, the vintage seduces with its varietal typicity. With finesse and refinement, the mouthfeel is elegantly structured that highlights the juicy and generous fruit, and it stretches until a persistent and enjoyable finish. Powerful and full of character, the Salmos 2014 is powerful and full of character. Decanting will help develop the aromas and reveal the full extent of its personality.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2014 Salmos is a blend of Cariñena, Garnacha Tinta and Syrah from vines planted in 1996 in the villages of El Lloar, Torroja, Bellmunt and Porrera. It fermented in stainless steel vats and matured in French oak barrels for 14 months. This 2014 showed more ripeness and rusticity than the 2015, something I also noticed in the top-of-the-range Perpetual. It has a polished and approachable style often seen in Torres's wines but with the Priorat character. 118,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2016.
