Description
An elegant and aromatic Meursault Chardonnay by Vincent Girardin
The producer
The history of the beautiful Vincent Girardin house began in 1980. Vincent Girardin was born into a family that have been winemakers since the 17th century. At the age of 19, he began producing wine with the two hectares of vines that he had inherited from his parents. A winemaker at heart and a passionate one at that, Vincent Girardin quickly made a name for himself among the great names of the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1992, the Vincent Girardin house has since become one of the finest references among great Burgundy wines. Since 2000, the talented Eric Germain has been following in Vincent Girardin's footsteps, passionately revealing the exceptional Premiers Crus and Grands Crus terroirs that surround Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
The vineyard
Meursault Village Narvaux 2017 by Vincent Girardin is made from a vineyard that is considered to be the most prestigious terroir in the village appellation near Meursault.
Due to its position on the upper part of the Meursault hillside, this climate is on a par with a Premier Cru.
The vines are 55 years old on average and are planted on a steep slope with shallow clay-limestone soil, very stony and rocky with some chalk.
The wine
The Meursault Village Narvaux is one of Vincent Girardin’s iconic wines. Compared to other wines, it is the last to be harvested and bottled and is aged for a slightly longer period.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are sorted on the vine and then harvested by hand. They are pressed slowly in order to encourage the extraction of the juice. The musts are lightly settled before being placed in oak barrels (15% of which are new). Fermentation is carried out in barrels with natural yeasts.
The wine is aged on its fine lees for 18 months in oak barrels. The wines are blended in tanks one month before bottling, then fined and lightly filtered in line with the lunar calendar.
Through his wines, Vincent Girardin seeks to express the pertinence of perfectly ripe grapes. During the ageing period, these white wines do not undergo stirring of the lees.
