Description
An exceptional Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru, full and rich in aromas
The producer
The history of the beautiful Vincent Girardin house began in 1980. Vincent Girardin was born into a family that have been winemakers since the 17th century. At the age of 19, he began producing wine with the two hectares of vines that he had inherited from his parents. A winemaker at heart and a passionate one at that, Vincent Girardin quickly made a name for himself among the great names of the Côte de Beaune. Founded in 1992, the Vincent Girardin house has since become one of the finest references among great Burgundy wines. Since 2000, the talented Eric Germain has been following in Vincent Girardin's footsteps, passionately revealing the exceptional Premiers Crus and Grands Crus terroirs that surround Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
The vineyard
Vincent Girardin's Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Combettes" 2016 is made from a plot located in the village of Puligny Montrachet, in the south of the Côte de Beaune. "Les Combettes" is located between the villages of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The 55 year old vines are planted on poor, stony clay-limestone soil and benefit from an eastern exposure.
The vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are harvested and then sorted. They are gently pressed in order to favour the extraction of the juice. The musts are lightly settled before being placed in 228 litre oak barrels (approximately 15% new wood). Fermentation is carried out in barrels with natural yeast.
The wine is aged on its fine lees for 18 months in oak barrels. The wines are blended in tanks one month before bottling, then fined and lightly filtered, in line with the lunar calendar.
Through his wines, Vincent Girardin seeks to express the pertinence of perfectly ripe grapes. No stirring of the lees is carried out during the ageing period.
The blend
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Combettes" 2016 by Vincent Girardin is a 100% Chardonnay.
The tasting
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Combettes" 2016 by Vincent Girardin will seduce lovers of fine white Burgundy wines due to its fullness and aromatic richness. Expressing great acidity and balance, flavours of apricot, peach, citrus and hints of exotic fruits emerge.
