Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Lieu-dit "Verlieu" 2024 Yves Cuilleron

Tasting

Colour
White in colour, it displays a pale, clear hue typical of its grape variety.

Nose
The bouquet opens with vibrant aromas of mango, white peach and acacia blossom, underscored by delicate notes of citrus and jasmine. With aeration, mineral, honeyed and subtly toasted nuances emerge.

Palate
Both full-bodied and elegant, the palate offers a creamy, refined texture. The juicy stone fruit flavours are carried by a lovely vibrancy that preserves the overall elegance. The minerality of the terroir expresses itself fully through to a long finish, enhanced by a delicate touch of bitterness.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with poultry such as chicken or turkey, as well as with risotto, seafood in a creamy sauce or creamy pasta dishes.

Service and storage

Approachable from its youth, this Lieu-dit "Verlieu" 2024 boasts excellent ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2034.

The elegance and minerality of a great Condrieu wine

The estate

Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron, the family estate has established itself as a key reference in the Rhône Valley. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been at the helm of the estate. This former mechanic has transformed the property, growing it from three and a half hectares to around one hundred hectares spread across the finest northern Rhône appellations. A staunch advocate of sustainable viticulture and a minimal-intervention approach, he crafts cuvées that precisely capture the identity of their terroirs of origin.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the Condrieu appellation, more specifically from plots located in the hamlet of Chavanay. The eighty-year-old vines are planted at high density on steep terraces facing south and south-east. The terroir is distinguished by shallow soil resting on a bedrock of biotite granite, rich in mica. Due to the steep slopes, all vineyard work is carried out by hand, with the utmost respect for the environment.

The vintage

The year was marked by complex weather conditions across France, with early budbreak increasing the risk of spring frost. However, the vineyard's altitude and more northerly location helped mitigate these hazards. Rigorous green harvesting encouraged optimal ripening of the remaining berries.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness, then whole-bunch pressed. After a natural settling period of twenty-four hours, alcoholic fermentation begins under the action of indigenous yeasts, directly in barrels. The Lieu-dit "Verlieu" 2024 is then aged for twelve to eighteen months in barrels and foudres. During this period, the wine rests on its fine lees without any racking or lees stirring. Bottling is generally carried out without fining or filtration.
