A lively and fruity Italian Chianti Classico from the Antinori - Pèppoli estate

The estate

Acquired by the Antinori family in 1985, the Peppoli estate covers one hundred hectares in the heart of Chianti Classico, including fifty hectares of vineyards. Owned by the Antinori family for twenty-six generations and more than six centuries, this Tuscan House is among the oldest family-owned wine businesses in the world. Now led by Albiera Antinori as president, the estate perpetuates a tradition of excellence while maintaining a spirit of innovation. The Peppoli estate stands out for its unique terroir and its production of an authentic and fruity Chianti Classico.

The vineyard

The Peppoli estate vineyard enjoys a privileged geographical location, about five kilometers northeast of the famous Tenuta Tignanello. Despite an unusual eastern and northeastern exposure, the microclimate of the surrounding small valley provides ideal conditions for vine growing. The galestro and alberese soils, rich in minerals and gravelly in nature, give sangiovese its characteristic fruity expression and vibrancy. This unique terroir of Chianti Classico produces grapes of exceptional quality.

The vintage

The winter of 2023 in Tuscany was marked by cold and dry conditions, particularly at the end of March. Spring proved cool and rainy, especially in April and May, allowing the soils to build excellent water reserves. Summer benefited from stable temperatures without episodes of excessive heat in July and August. The month of September brought cool temperatures and some rainfall, encouraging a gradual and balanced ripening of the grapes. Harvest began on September 12 and ended in early October, allowing healthy and perfectly ripe grapes to be picked.

Vinification and aging

Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately. After destemming and gentle crushing, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 26 and 28°C. Maceration lasts ten to twelve days for sangiovese and up to two weeks for the complementary grape varieties. After malolactic fermentation is completed at the end of winter, the blend is carried out and the wine is aged mainly in large Slavonian oak casks, complemented by a small proportion in barrels and stainless steel tanks. Bottling of this Chianti Classico 2023 began in August 2024.

Grape varieties

Sangiovese, complemented by merlot, syrah, and malvasia in varying proportions depending on the vintage.
