Description

A delicate Tuscan Red wine with a beautiful aromatic profile

The estate

The Ricasoli family, one of the oldest Italian families, with origins dating back to the 7th century, founded Italy’s oldest wine estate. Indeed, in 1141, it acquired the Château Brolio, marking the beginning of its commitment to viticulture. Aware of the exceptional potential of this terroir, the family undertook significant vineyard restructuring and modernization of winemaking techniques, aiming to produce wines of excellence from the Brolio terroir.

The Tuscan wines from the Barone Ricasoli estate quickly gained international renown, notably when the Brolio wine won the gold medal at the 1867 Paris World’s Fair. After extensive research, Bettino Ricasoli developed the Chianti “formula” in 1872, now known as Chianti Classico.

The vineyard

The Colledilà Gran Selezione from Barone Ricasoli is a Tuscan wine produced from a vineyard located southeast of Brolio in Italy. Covering 7.62 hectares and situated at 380 meters above sea level, this vineyard is predominantly planted with Sangiovese since 2002. The soils, very stony, are rich in calcium carbonate and clay, but low in organic matter. These characteristics, combined with excellent exposure, offer a unique terroir that gives the wine its complexity and structure.

The vintage

The winter was mild and rainy, followed by a warm, dry spring. The summer, marked by high temperatures and a lack of water, tested the vines. Nevertheless, they adapted and regulated their growth. Late August rains refreshed the atmosphere, promoting veraison, while ideal conditions in September allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, ensuring a high-quality harvest.

Winemaking and ageing

Carefully selected, the berries are then destemmed and gravity-transferred into stainless steel conical tanks. Fermentation takes place at a regulated temperature between 24 and 27°C. After a 14 to 16-day maceration, this Chianti Classico wine is aged for 22 months in barrels, 30% new and 70% used.

Grape variety

The 2022 Colledilà Gran Selezione from Barone Ricasoli is 100% Sangiovese.
