James Suckling

Plenty of freshness and energy to this silky rosé Champagne. Aromas of strawberries, orange peel, peaches and spiced bread follow through to a creamy, fine and medium-bodied palate. Soft bubbles. Chalky minerality coming through at the end. 92% chardonnay and 8% pinot noir red wine. Drink or hold.

Vinous

Antonio Galloni

The 2014 Extra Brut Rosé Rare Collection blends 92% Chardonnay from Avize, Oger, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant with 8% Pinot Noir from Vertus and Verzenay, vinified as a red wine for its pink color. After spending eight years on lees, it opens with lemon shortbread and an exquisite streak of lemony strawberry. The palate is sleek, taut and svelte, yet rich with the finest, creamiest mousse that spreads lemon shortbread richness and deep chalkiness. Fine freshness underlies and connects all, like twinkling lights amidst the chalkiness, with just an edge of plum skin. Like its non-vintage sibling, this is a pink Champagne for Blanc de Blancs lovers. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. (Lot LS41X72R2) - Anne Krebiehl MW

Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the "Rare Collection" Rosé 2014 cuvée from Barons de Rothschild

Tasting

Color
A brilliant color enhanced by subtle coppery reflections, accompanied by a delicate and refined effervescence.

Nose
Aromas of fresh cherry and citrus fruits such as blood orange and ripe grapefruit take the lead. They then give way to spicy nuances, evoking saffron, and vanilla touches that recall the partial vinification in oak barrels.

Palate
The attack seduces with a refined texture, where a saline minerality meets flavors of ripe raspberry and strawberry. The palate, carried by a beautiful tension, stretches with remarkable length, ending on warm notes of pepper and sweet spices.

Food and wine pairings

A lobster with red wine sauce, a pink duck breast or slightly spicy dishes from Asian or Oriental cuisine are delicate pairings with the "Rare Collection" Rosé 2014 cuvée from Barons de Rothschild.

Service

For optimal tasting, serve between 10 and 12°C.

The power and complexity of a vintage Rosé champagne

The property

Founded in 2005, the House of Champagne Barons de Rothschild is a creation of family and heart, resulting from the unprecedented alliance between the three branches (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Clarke, Château Lafite Rothschild), aiming to magnify the majestic terroir of Champagne which embodies beyond borders the quality and art of living. "To accomplish through great achievements", such has been the ambition for over 250 years of the Rothschild family who, with their viticultural experience in Bordeaux, produce excellent champagnes at the crossroads of know-how and tradition.

Carrying values of excellence, taste and conviviality, the House of Champagne Barons de Rothschild, whose headquarters has been located in Reims since 2007 near illustrious Champagne properties, unveils cuvées whose singular style harmoniously blends finesse, balance and purity.

The vineyard

The "Rare Collection" Rosé cuvée from Barons de Rothschild is made from Grands and Premiers Crus from Champagne. The chardonnays come from Avize, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant and the pinot noirs from Verzenay and Vertus.

The vintage

A mild and wet winter precedes a particularly dry spring. The cool and rainy summer gives way to a September whose warmth ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. Despite low yields, the harvest combines concentration, finesse and quality.

Vinification and aging

Exclusive use of the cuvée (first press). Parcel vinification in small 20hl stainless steel tanks and a small proportion in barrels. The red vinification of the pinot noir is carried out in the dedicated winery of the House. The aging on fine lees for a period of 9 months in small tanks, accompanied by regular stirring, is followed by a minimum of 8 years aging on lees in the cellar. The dosage of this Rosé champagne is 4 g/l and the resting period after disgorging is a minimum of 12 months.

Blend

92 % chardonnay
8 % red wine from pinot noir.
