Decanter

Sourced from premier cru and grand cru sites—Avize, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant for the Chardonnay, and Verzenay and Vertus for the Pinot Noir—then vinified by individual plot, mostly in 20hl stainless steel tanks. The first fermentation was aged on fine lees for nine months with regular bâtonnage, and the finished wine was matured for at least eight years in bottle. Dosage 4 g/L. Peter Liem: Dark and ripe on the nose but lifted and harmonious, with pronounced refinement. The fruit is primary on the palate, bold yet elegantly balanced, and it finishes with tension. Satisfying. Alan Bednarski: Vinous character, aged Pinot Noir. Some oxidation, but delicate and vegetal. I would age this a little longer. Claire Thevenot MS: Restrained nose, refreshing orchard-fruit notes. Rhubarb, still very young—the palate is tight, long, with fine texture. Recently disgorged, needs time.

James Suckling

Beautiful aromas of strawberry tart and peaches follow through to a full body with layers of fruit, integrated bubbles and light phenolics that give this wine wonderful tension. 92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Noir. Dosage 4g/L. Drink or hold.

Description

The precision and aromatic richness of a Rosé champagne

The estate

Founded in 2005, the Barons de Rothschild Champagne House is a heartfelt family creation and is the fruit of the unprecedented alliance between the three estates (Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Clarke, Château Lafite Rothschild). The aim is to enhance the majestic terroir of Champagne, which embodies quality and beams a luxurious lifestyle well beyond its borders. For over 250 years, the Rothschild family's ambition has been to "achieve greatness through greatness". With its wealth of winegrowing experience in Bordeaux, the Rothschild family has been producing excellent champagnes that blend both know-how and tradition.

The house’s headquarters has been based in Reims since 2007 and is surrounded by illustrious Champagne houses. The Barons de Rothschild Champagne House is built on a set of values: utter excellence, flavour and conviviality and unveils vintages whose unique style harmoniously combines finesse, balance and purity.

The vineyard

Barons de Rothschild's "Rare Collection" Rosé 2012 stems from Grands Crus and Premiers Crus in the Champagne region. The Chardonnay grapes come from Avize, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant and the Pinot Noir from Verzenay and Vertus.

The vintage

A long winter preceded a cool spring with little sunshine. Although heavy rainfall and hail had an impact on yields until the end of July, the warmer conditions of August salvaged the vintage. Despite low yields, the 2012 vintage boasts a very high quality.

Vinification and ageing

Exclusive use of the cuvée (first press). Vinification by plot in small 20hl stainless steel tanks and a small proportion in barrels. The red Pinot Noir grapes are vinified in the house's dedicated vat room. The wine is aged on its fine lees for 9 months in small vats, along with regular stirring of the lees, followed by at least 8 years of ageing in the cellar. The dosage of this extra brut cuvée is 4 g/l and the resting period after disgorgement is at least 12 months.

The blend

92% Chardonnay

8% Pinot Noir red wine.

Barons de Rothschild "Rare Collection" Rosé 2012: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour

Brilliant, the colour reveals subtle coppery hues and a fine effervescence.

Nose

The nose harmoniously combines the finesse of Chardonnay with the structure and power of Pinot Noir. The bouquet mixes notes of spices and vanilla, conferred by the partial vinification in barrels, with gourmet aromas of pear combined with the Chardonnay variety’s typical freshness.

Palate

Ample and light, this champagne seduces the palate with its tension and crispness sustained by lemony notes. Portraying a great precision, the delicious palate weaves into a persistent and complex finish.

Food and wine pairing

This "Rare Collection" Rosé 2012 by Barons de Rothschild will complement duck breast, venison served with a Grand Veneur sauce, and also, due to its structure, spicy Asian or Oriental dishes.

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, serve between 8 and 10°C.

Storage

Ennoy today, this exceptional champagne can be kept in the cellar for many years.
