Description
The Intensity and Precision of a Magnificent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
Purchased by the Beyney family in 1923 and managed with passion and conviction by Jean-Guy Beyney since 1986, the Grand Cru Classé Château Clos de Sarpe displays all of the noble qualities of the great terroir of Saint-Émilion, on the Right Bank of Bordeaux.
The 2017 vintage will be remembered at Château Clos de Sarpe, since this year marks the beginning of organic conversion on the vineyard.
Acclaimed by critics once again, the Château Clos de Sarpe 2017 has become one of the impressive products of this atypical vintage known as a "winemaker’s vintage.” The wine confirms the estate’s place among the most beautiful references of the Saint-Émilion appellation. As the vineyard was spared by the episodes of frost that hit Bordeaux at the end of April, the vegetative cycle of the vine continued in a normal way, ensuring optimal maturity and excellent phenolic potential in the fruit, while maintaining a beautiful freshness.
Made from a blend of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%), the Château Clos de Sarpe 2017 displays a sumptuous bouquet. With its rich aromas of black cherry liqueur, crème de cassis, delicate floral fragrances reminiscent of fresh violet, and fine toasted notes that attest to a careful ageing in barrel, the nose presents a seductive complexity. On the palate, this great Saint-Emilion offers perfect harmony, revealing a superbly sculpted mouthfeel with soft and ripe tannins. The great aromatic purity extends into a beautifully long finish. A great and very elegant Saint-Émilion.
