A characterful Moulin-à-Vent from an exceptional terroir
The estate
Founded in 1732, Château du Moulin-à-Vent is the only namesake estate in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, located in the heart of Les Thorins in Romanèche-Thorins, in Beaujolais. Acquired by the Parinet family in 2008-2009, the estate is now run by Édouard Parinet, joined since 2013 by Brice Laffond. Old Gamay vines planted on granite are farmed with a bio-oriented approach. The estate draws on a 16th-century cellar and a 19th-century chapel. Ranked among the 100 best estates in the world by Wine & Spirits in 2017, 2020 and 2021, Château du Moulin-à-Vent embodies the excellence of Beaujolais.
The vineyard
The Champ de Cour cuvée comes from a parcel located at the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. The terroir is characterized by deep soils rich in clay and manganese oxide, resting on a granitic subsoil. This distinctive geological composition gives the wine its distinctive minerality and exceptional aging capacity. The exposure and the nature of the soils allow for optimal ripening of Gamay, the single grape variety in this cuvée.
The vintage
The 2015 vintage proved sunny and exceptional in Beaujolais. Particularly favorable weather conditions produced grapes of remarkable ripeness, offering concentration and balance. This vintage is considered one of the region’s most successful of the decade.
Winemaking and aging
Champ de Cour 2015 benefited from aging in oak barrels, refining the tannic structure and adding further complexity to the wine. This aging period was carried out with care to preserve the expression of fruit and terroir while developing the cuvée’s aging potential.
