Château Fayat 2014

Compact, juicy, dense, with tannins free of harshness: if it goes into bottle like this, it will be the estate’s best wine so far.

The 2014 Fayat has an intense bouquet with bold black cherry, blueberry and iodine scents, a little ostentatious compared to its peers, although you cannot deny the purity here. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-like entry, almost Burgundy-like in terms of tannic structure, with vivid red cherry and kirsch notes tinged with blood orange. It is almost as if this Pomerol wants to please too much and you look for a little restraint on the finish. But there is a sense of charm here that perhaps has been missing in previous vintages of Fayat; the silky finish will give it wide appeal.

Spice-infused raspberry and boysenberry confiture notes form the core, backed by a good snap of licorice. A light apple wood edge imparts some spine on the finish. Best from 2019 through 2026. 2,500 cases made.

The ripe-plum and floral aromas are accentuated by the lively acidity. This may not be a big or rich wine, but it has great balance, and you could drink it with a wide range of foods (including quite spicy stuff). Drink now.

The 2014 Fayat is floral, perfumed and savory, with good depth to its red-toned fruit. Feminine and gracious, this fairly quiet, hushed Pomerol should drink well with minimal cellaring.

Ringing with anise, earth, herbs, espresso and dark cherry notes, this wine is soft, medium to full-bodied and already approachable. For 2014, the wine was produced from 100% Merlot and reached 13.5% ABV with a pH of 3.8. 88-89 Pts

Extremely dark purple with lilac and violet highlights. The fruit seems a bit cooked on the powerful attack, with an Amarena touch and wild raspberry jam. On the palate, it continues with a dense, concentrated extract showing a compote-like character. Unfortunately, the extraction note is not entirely unobtrusive. Less would be more.

A touch of indulgence in this harsh world is always welcome, and that’s exactly what this 2014 offers—silky to perfection.

A wine made from 100% Merlot from three sites, with a yield of 34 hl/ha. Extensive structuring work has been carried out. The wine is fresh, elegant, with a lovely texture that’s a touch fluid. The old Cabernet Franc vines from 1902 and 1903 have been uprooted.

Garnet red with purple highlights. Bouquet of good intensity, still a little restrained. Spicy character. Notes of black pepper and raspberries. Juicy, fruity and very pleasant on the palate. The body is balanced, creamy, with perfectly integrated tannins. They are in harmony with a refreshing structure that brings lively energy. Fruity finish.

Fruity wine with a rounded palate, present on the mid-palate, pleasant, and of medium length.

Under the same ownership as Château la Dominque in neighbouring Saint-Emilion, this estate produces 100% Merlot. This generous wine with its rich tannins is dark with firm acidity, juicy black fruits and dark coffee flavours. It is concentrated and will take many years to soften. Drink from 2023.
