An exceptional Pomerol wine with a unique character
The Estate
Gradually built up by the Léglise family from Libourne in the mid-18th century, Château L’Évangile was quickly regarded as a "Premier Cru du Haut-Pomerol". After being owned by the Ducasse family, Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite acquired the vineyard in 1990 with the aim of bringing the growth to its highest level. From the vine to the cellar, Château L’Évangile underwent extensive restructuring and modernisation, becoming one of the outstanding references of the Pomerol appellation.
The Vineyard
Located on the plateau on the right bank of the Dordogne, about 40 kilometres north-east of Bordeaux, the Pomerol vineyard covers around 22 hectares. The terroir is characterised by clay soils with a surface layer of gravel, giving the wines their distinctive character.
The Vintage
The 2017 vintage was marked by spring frosts, which required careful selection and sorting. Despite these difficult conditions, the vintage is characterised by a remarkable balance of aromatic freshness, high-quality tannins and a long structure.
Winemaking and Ageing
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cement tanks for about 10 days. Maceration lasts around 27 days. Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in new oak barrels from the Tonnellerie des Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite and last for 18 months.
