Vinum

Herbal-spicy, showing citrus, green apple, rhubarb. Juicy, with fine acidity, very well balanced and with a long-lasting finish. Better this year than the red wine.

Decanter

Gorgeous nose, so clean, fresh and alive. Well delivered on the palate with punch and presence. Yellow plum, pineapple, apricot and peach all combine on the palate, giving a full mouthfeel without excessive weight. Sharp, bright, bold but also fun, this has excellent precision and drive from start to finish. A knockout La Louvière this year by winemaker Jacques Lurton and his team. Totally yummy and a real success. Tasted twice.

White peaches, apple pears, honeysuckle, vanilla beans, waxy lemons, and flowers on the nose set you up perfectly for the racy acidity on the palate, which is the perfect backdrop for all the sweet, fresh, and pure citrus, and crunchy green apples that linger. Drink from 2024–2035.

Very pale yellow-green, silver reflections. Delicate aromas of pineapple, mango, fresh meadow herbs and a hint of citrus zest. Medium complexity, fine and well-integrated fruit with balanced, pleasing acidity, ready to drink.

I loved the nose of the 2021 Château La Louvière Blanc, which is all Sauvignon Blanc aged 10 months in oak. Showing a touch of good reduction in its citrus, honeyed melon, minty herbs, and spicy nuances, this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness and a nicely textured, balanced, concentrated profile with high yet integrated acidity. It shows the vibrant, racy style of the vintage while bringing beautiful depth and tension.

Clear Sauvignon Blanc character, focusing on citrus, salted cracker, grass and capsicum; sculpted and fresh, with plenty of mouthwatering slate on the finish adding tension. Good quality, ready to drink but will keep delivering for a good five to eight years. 30% new oak, great work from owner Jacques Lurton.

Le Figaro Vin

A delectable nose of precious metals and plant roots, with bright notes of yellow fruit. Good complexity on the palate, with lovely floral notes and kumquat.

What plurality and subtlety in the bouquet of the 2021. It reveals refreshing notes of lemongrass, anise and a touch of vermouth. Well supported by its acidic structure, complemented by the gourmand character on the attack, the wine is slender, tasty and mouthwatering!

Pale color. Medium-intensity nose, fruity and suave. Delicate on the attack, with flavor at mid-palate, the wine unfolds delicious and melting, like a cloud on the tongue. It’s very good, but I can’t say whether the cru will retain such nuances during élevage.

Terre de Vins

La Louvière offers a wine with green hues and a nose of white peach, yellow lemon, and honeysuckle. The palate is slightly textured and rich, led by lime and lifted by a touch of pink grapefruit on the finish. With decent length, the whole is suitably taut.

A breezy white, with crunchy lime pith, white asparagus and chalk dust notes driving alongside good cut. Drink now through 2024. 6,200 cases made, 80 cases imported.

Vertdevin

The nose is exotic, opulent and rich, revealing notes of passion fruit, grapefruit, blackcurrant leaf and gooseberry. The palate is vibrant and juicy, brimming with tropical fruits (pineapple, mango), citrus (lemon, lime), with zesty, mouthwatering acidity, good concentration and a long, persistent, refreshing finish.

Pure Sauvignon Blanc gives a citrus character, enhanced by the wood aging that gives spicy, toasty notes. It is a ripe wine with a fresh edge. Drink from 2025.

Description

The freshness and intensity of a Pessac-Léognan white wine

The estate

The name of Château La Louvière suggests that the origins of the estate hark back to the 13th century, when the provost of Léognan Guilhem de la Louvière would have given his name to the castle. After having shone in the hands of the Guilloche and Chartreux families, in 1791 the estate became the property of Jean-Baptiste Marheilac, a great merchant from Bordeaux. He asked François Lhote to build the superb castle which still stands out today as one of the most beautiful of Bordeaux. Thanks to the great attention paid by the Marheilac family, who remained the owners for more than two centuries, the estate's wines stand out as some of the greatest wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Today, the château belongs to the family of André Lurton, a great Bordeaux wine family.

The vineyard

Château La Louvière 2021 is a white wine from Pessac-Léognan made from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vines are 27 years old on average and are planted in deep gravel soils and outcrops of limestone and clay. Thanks to its environmentally friendly viticultural practices, the château is a High Environmental Value estate (Level 3/3).

The vintage

The frost at the beginning of April had a strong impact on the white parcels located at the bottom of the slopes. Despite low yields (40% of normal volume), the grapes harvested boast a high quality.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting. Maceration on fine lees before pressing and alcoholic fermentation in 600-litre barrels and demi-muid. Aged for 10 months in barrels on its lees with regular stirring.

The blend

Sauvignon Blanc (100%).
