2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone Valley
The year 2010 was incredible: fresh summer nights and not excessively hot days. This 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Chateau La Nerthe is 43% Grenache Noir, 31% Cinsault, 28% Syrah and 9% Mourvèdre.
The wine displays a purple-tinted dark red colour. The nose is expressive on rich ripe fruit, quince jelly and mild spices notes. The swirl reveals blackberry and blackcurrant notes enhanced by a hint of black chocolate. On the palate, the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is rich with a wonderful density and a great balance. This unique vintage offers a great ageing potential.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2010 La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits the rare combination of unbridled power and freshness, minerality and abundant aromatics. A well-made, delicious red, with blueberry, boysenberry, black raspberry fruit, some background wood smoke, and the tell-tale Provencal garrigue, pepper and loamy soil notes, it is a wine of finesse, power and richness that should drink nicely for 10 to 15+ years.
