Description
The structure and aromatic finesse of a Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion
The estate
The Château Larcis Ducasse has existed since the 17th century. Preservation, terroir expression and vine care are the watchwords of this estate, elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion in 2012 thanks to the work of Nicolas Thienpont, after taking over the reins of the estate in 2002.
The vineyard
The 11.15 hectares of Château Larcis Ducasse are located on a true mosaic of terroirs of Saint-Émilion, composed of clay-limestone plateau over astériferous limestones as well as clay-silty and colluvial clay-limestone soils.
The vintage
Heavy rainfall and the mild winter of 2020 favored an early bud break. A frost event on April 17 was followed by record rains, leading to significant downy mildew pressure and a slowdown in growth. Flowering, thanks to winds countering the humidity, took place under good conditions. Early June was marked by significant coolness as well as heavy rains that ceased from June 19 to August 11. The wide temperature variations, cool nights in August, and a few rainy episodes provided ideal conditions for proper grape ripening. The summer conditions in September, marked by the return of some coolness due to rainfall, refined the ripeness, the color and the tannic structure of the berries.
Blend
Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
