Château Lespault-Martillac 2018

A charming and intense white wine from Péssac-Leognan

Situated on a ridge of gravel in the town of Martillac, Château Lespault-Martillac is one of the rising stars of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

After a 2017 with very low production quantities due to frost in April, the 2018 vintage was awaited with hope. Although the beginning of the season was wet enough to test the nerves of vine growers, the second part of the year was hot, sunny and dry. These conditions, associated with significant water reserves, were ideal to allow the fruit to reach perfect ripeness by the time of harvest, which was carried out under perfect conditions. Thus, the grapes were harvested at a point of exceptional maturity and balanced by excellent acidity!

The Château Lespault-Martillac 2018 is made from a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon. This dry white wine of the Pessac-Léognan appellation comes from a very gentle vinification process. Following a slow pneumatic pressing without destemming and without maceration, the juices are decanted by means of gravity. Produced without malolactic fermentation to maintain a vibrant tension, the Château Lespault-Martillac white 2018 is aged for 9 months on its lees with occasional stirring in oak barrels, a quarter of which are new.

This Pessac-Léognan white 2018 has an aromatic profile dominated by stone fruits, especially peaches, and citrus fruits. The wine brings about flavours of beautiful white fruits on an unctuous, concentrated and very tasty palate. This roundness is balanced by a beautiful tension and intense fruit. In a few words, the Château Lespault-Martillac 2018 can be summed up as being an elegant, generous and fresh wine.
