Château Mazeyres 2012

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc (a traditional blend for the Right Bank appellations of Pomerol and, to a lesser extent, St.-Emilion), this wine offers attractive notes of sweet and sour black cherries, licorice and a touch of mulberry. It is medium-bodied, soft, round and best drunk over the next 8-10 years. A little more complexity would have resulted in a higher score.

Soft and forward, with cherry, rhubarb and plum notes laced with modest toast and a hint of mulled spice. Drink now. 4,100 cases made.

Lighter-bodied but lively and fresh. Slightly drying finish.

A wine with light tannins and delicate fruit, with an earthy and berry undertone. Medium-bodied with a fresh finish. Drink now.

The 2012 Mazeyres is a big, powerful wine with serious intensity of fruit. Green tannins attenuate the mid-palate and finish, detracting from the wine's overall balance.

Elegant fruit, wild raspberry, blackberry, soft and polished texture, rather full, fine length and substance.

Fresh, slightly vegetal bouquet, raspberries, red cassis, eucalyptus. Light, fragrant palate with sweet fruit, finely grippy tannins, sweet aromatics, light, peppery finish. Still has room to improve. 16/20 2018 - 2030

Mazeyres 2012 is a lovely wine, all about fruit and suppleness, nicely spiced, with stylish oak and a dark-chocolate finish.

The nose is fruity and offers subtle power, elegance, and a touch of freshness. It reveals notes of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and, more lightly, ripe raspberry, combined with delicate hints of ripe cherry as well as touches of tonka bean and sweet spices. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers good definition, tension, subtle richness, vibrancy, freshness, and a juicy/tangy framework. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blackberry, ripe wild blackcurrant, and, more lightly, wild raspberry, combined with a delicate touch of cherry as well as very subtle hints of spices, toast, tonka bean, and a subtle hint of ripe almond. The tannins are fine and elegant. Good length. A very discreet hint of coffee is present in the background/on the finish.
