Description

The precision and expression of a fine Saint-Estèphe red wine

The estate

Situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Meyney enjoys an exceptional location, near the Gironde estuary. With origins dating back to 1662, this property of the subsidiary Crédit Agricole Grands Crus has experienced a remarkable rise in quality in recent decades. The wines of Château Meyney are among the most beautiful references in the Saint-Estèphe and the Médoc appellations

The vineyard

Château Meyney 2021 is a Saint-Estephe wine that stems from a vineyard of around fifty hectares, all in one piece, neighbouring that of Château Montrose. The vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel soils with one notable feature. A vein of blue clay 3 metres thick, like the one found on the terroir of Pétrus, lies buried in the subsoil.

The vintage

The particularly early budding of the vines was favoured by a mild, wet winter followed by a summery start to spring. The summer was cool, not very sunny and very rainy.

Vinification and ageing

Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, they are sorted twice, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Gentle, plot-based vinification. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (54%)

Merlot (34%)

Petit Verdot (12%).
