Vinum

This wine hasn’t been a well-kept secret for some time, but it still offers a lot this year: gorgeous fruit, crisp and juicy, distinctive, finely knit tannins, tremendous drive, very elegant. Recommended.

Decanter

Minty fresh with ripe fruit aromas, this wine has a robust palate with iodine freshness, juiciness and even a bit of pleasurable creaminess. A bit tight on the finish at this stage, but of good quality, the tannins will soften with barrel ageing. An excellent St-Estèphe!

Vinous

The 2023 Meyney has an open, expressive nose with more red fruit than its appellation peers, raspberry and wild strawberry mixed with loam, later hints of blackberry. The palate is medium-bodied, with grainy tannins on the entry. Fine density, showing more grip than in barrel, with an earthy and quite sustained finish. There is promise here.

Black currants, flowers, tobacco, and mint add to the bouquet. The fruits are chewy, dense, ripe, and lifted. There is vibrancy in the blackberry, tobacco, and herb-filled finish. Drink from 2028-2045. 91-93 pts.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. Nuances of cassis and mint, fresh black cherry, fine herbal savouriness, inviting bouquet. Medium body, fine red heart cherry, round tannins, mineral-salty finish, lively style.

Often a benchmark wine for me in a vintage, and it is a good sign for the Left Bank in 2023 that Meyney is tasting great. A punch of inky plum and blackberry fruit, good lift and freshness, plenty of tannic grip, an excellent wine. A buy. CA Grands Crus owners.

Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Meyney 2023

Tasting

This vintage seduces with its delicacy, power and great finesse.

The refinement and precision of a Saint-Estèphe wine

The estate

Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Château Meyney has an exceptional location, near the estuary of the Gironde. With origins dating back to 1662, this property of the Crédit Agricole Grands Crus subsidiary has experienced a remarkable qualitative rise in recent decades. The wines of Château Meyney thus stand out among the most beautiful references of the Saint-Estèphe appellation and the Médoc.

The vineyard

Château Meyney 2023 is a Saint-Estèphe wine from a vineyard of about fifty hectares in one piece, close to the terroir of Château Montrose. The vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel soils with a notable peculiarity. A 3-meter thick vein of blue clay, such as the one found on the terroir of Château Pétrus, is buried in the subsoil.

Vinification and ageing

Once the manual harvest is done, the grapes are subject to a double sorting, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Gentle and parcel vinifications. Ageing in French oak barrels for 18 months.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)
Merlot (38%)
Petit Verdot (12%).
