Description
The complexity and elegance of a Margaux red wine
The estate
Monsieur de Rauzan acquired the manor and its vineyards at the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV. Thanks to his expertise in winemaking, he made Château Rauzan-Gassies the first Second Cru Classé of Margaux in the Bordeaux region. The estate now belongs to the Quié family.
The vineyard
Château Rauzan-Gassies 2022 is a Margaux wine that stems from a vineyard of 28 hectares in production. The vines, on average 35 years old, are planted on deep gravel and gravelly sand.
The vintage
This 2022 vintage was marked by drought and severe heat very early in the season, right up to the end of the harvest. Despite these extreme conditions, the vines resisted and revealed grapes of optimal quality, displaying a wonderful freshness and delicate tannins.
Winemaking and ageing
Hand-picked, the grapes are vinified by plot in stainless steel vats of between 12 and 120 hectolitres. Fermentation is temperature-controlled at between 26 and 28°C, with 2 to 3 pump-overs a day. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 57% of which are new.
Blend
Château Rauzan-Gassies 2022 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) and Merlot (24%).
