Description
The structure and balance of a Pomerol wine
The estate
Located within the Pomerol appellation on the right bank of Bordeaux, the origins of Château Rouget date back to several centuries ago. Although Château Rouget has been mentioned in cadastral archives from 1700, its terroir was recognised for its quality at the end of the Roman Empire, making it one of the oldest estates in the appellation. The passion and rigour of the various owners in running this vineyard allowed Château Rouget to be recognised at the end of the 19th century as one of the best vintages of the appellation. Château Rouget is the only Bordeaux estate belonging to a family from Burgundy following its acquisition by the Labruyère family in 1992.
The vineyard
Château Rouget watches over a 17-hectare vineyard. The vines are planted on a terroir composed of gravel and clay. The subsoil is made up of gravelly hilltops and clayey-gravelly terraces which give rise to fine Pomerol wines.
The blend
Merlot (85%)
Cabernet Franc (15%).
