Description
An expressive and finely precise Grand Cru from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Prestigious reference of the Saint-Émilion appellation, the Clos des Jacobins takes its name from the Benedictine preaching monks who welcomed pilgrims along the routes to Santiago de Compostela. Since 2004, Clos des Jacobins has been the property of Thibaut and Magali Decoster.
The vineyard
Dating back to the 17th century, the single 8.5-hectare vineyard of this Grand Cru Classé lies in the heart of the great terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Situated at the foot of the slope with excellent south-facing exposure, the vines, which average 30 years of age, are planted on a superb limestone terroir. The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture practices.
Vinification and aging
Hand-harvested, the grapes undergo manual sorting. Maceration followed by vinification with punch-downs and rack-and-return. 31-day maceration. Malolactic fermentation in new barrels and wooden vats. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 65% of which are new.
Blend
The 2014 Clos des Jacobins is the result of a blend of Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
