The concentration and balance of a red wine of Rotie Coast made by Delas
Founded in 1835, the Maison Delas Frères is a reference among the wines of the Northern Rhône Valley . If its acquisition by the Maison de Champagne Deutz in 1977 marked the beginning of a new era, the development of the house internationally continued thanks to its acquisition in 1993 by the Rouzaud family, the majority shareholder of the Louis Roederer group.
The Maison Delas Frères watches over a vineyard spread over three exceptional appellations of the Rhone Valley: Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. In order to magnify the expression of each of these terroirs, winemaking as well as breeding are performed in a parcellary manner.
This Seigneur de Maugiron 2017 by Delas is made from vineyards located on the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde. In the Middle Ages, the Lord of Maugiron shared his Cote-Rotie vineyard between his two daughters, one brunette and the other blond. It is from there that the names "Côte Brune" and "Côte Blonde" come.
Winemaking and ageing
Grapes are harvested manually at full maturity and in a parcellary manner. Two days of pre-fermentation cold maceration precede a traditional winemaking in open concrete tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by pour-overs and punch-downs. About 20 day maceration. Ageing for 14 to 16 months is carried out in large barrels (50% new, 50% of a year) with regular extraction.
The Le Seigneur de Maugiron 2017 by Delas is a 100% Syrah.
The wine is an intense dark purple colour.
Powerful and fine, the nose reveals fragrances of blackcurrant, redcurrant and licorice with subtle oaky notes.
Concentrated and of a beautiful finesse, the palate seduces with its tight tannins, its balance and its silky touch.
Food and wine pairing
The Le Seigneur de Maugiron 2017 by Delas is ideally accompanied by meat, beef roasts, water game, truffles or even braised boar.
For an optimal tasting, open the bottle 1 to 3 hours before tasting. It is advisable to decant the wine if the time of keeping in the cellar is more than 5 years.
