Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Domaine de Trévallon 2023
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour is dark and deep, a dense ruby with purple highlights. As the wine is unfiltered, a very slight opalescence may appear.
Nose
The nose opens with ripe red and black fruits, such as raspberry, blackcurrant and blackberry. It is accompanied by notes of garrigue, pepper, liquorice and spice. With aeration, nuances of cedar and fine leather emerge.
Palate
The attack is vivid and leads to a dense, juicy texture. The tannins are ripe and polished. They are underpinned by a lovely tension that avoids any heaviness. The red and black fruits return, along with spice, garrigue and liquorice. The finish is long.
Serving and cellaring
This Domaine de Trévallon 2023 can be opened now, provided it is given generous aeration, ideally by decanting. This allows the aromas to unfold and the tannins to soften.
An IGP Alpilles wine combining finesse and aromatic expression
The estate
Domaine de Trévallon is located on the northern slope of the Alpilles, in Provence. It was born as a wine estate in 1973, when Éloi Dürrbach planted his first vines on the family property. Since Éloi's passing in 2021, his daughter Ostiane has run the estate, supported by her brother Antoine and her sister Isoline. The estate is certified organic. Faithful to its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, it left the Les Baux-de-Provence appellation in 1993 and now produces under the IGP Alpilles designation.
The vineyard
This wine from the IGP Alpilles comes from vines planted on the northern slope of the Alpilles massif, on limestone and stony soils. This situation encourages slow ripening and preserves the freshness of the grapes. The vineyard is managed organically.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are vinified as whole bunches, without destemming, using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in large oak vats before being bottled without filtration.
Grape varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
