A Full-Bodied, Aromatic White Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine des Sénéchaux
The estate
Domaine des Sénéchaux took its current form in the 1950s, under the impetus of the Raynaud family, on Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard land that had already been cultivated since the 14th century. Located in the heart of the appellation's plateau, in the southern Rhône Valley, the estate covers 27 hectares planted mainly with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre for the reds, and Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc for the whites. Since 2006, the property has belonged to the Cazes family, who also own Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, joined in 2018 by the Pradon family. Technical management is overseen by Bernard Tranchecoste.
The vineyard
The white vines of Domaine des Sénéchaux cover an area of 3 hectares within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, mainly on the lieu-dit of Bois Sénéchaux, located in the north of the appellation's plateau. The soils there combine clay and rounded pebbles, providing the white grape varieties with a terroir well suited to producing wines that are both ample and fresh.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the 2013 white Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine des Sénéchaux relies on gentle pressing of the grapes, followed by fermentation at controlled temperature in order to preserve the freshness and aromatic precision of the fruit. The careful ageing aims to maintain the balance between ampleness and vivacity, true to the estate's style for this unique white cuvée.
Grape varieties
Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc.
