Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Iglesia Vella 2023 Domaine Le Roc Des Anges
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals a golden hue, both clear and radiant, reflecting a beautiful luminosity.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a pronounced minerality, evoking slate and flint. It then develops gourmand nuances of sweet almond, harmoniously blended with fruity aromas of yellow peach and quince.
Palate
Carried by lovely energy and mineral tension, the palate unfolds with silky orchard fruit flavours. A citrus thread brings great freshness. The long, lingering finish extends into spicy notes and touches of garrigue.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, seafood, poultry in cream sauce, or grilled vegetables such as asparagus.
The tension and mineral purity of a white wine from Roussillon by Domaine Le Roc Des Anges
The estate
Founded in 2001 by Marjorie Gallet, joined by Stéphane Gallet in 2008, Domaine Le Roc Des Anges spans approximately 25 hectares in Roussillon. Taking its name from a seam of white quartz running through the vineyard, the estate has established itself through its philosophy centred on biodynamics, low yields, and minimal intervention in the cellar to let the terroir express itself.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Montner, this terroir, classified under IGP Côtes Catalanes, rises to an altitude of 400 metres. The vines, north-facing on the slopes of the Força Real mountain, benefit from a cool microclimate. The shallow soils are made up of metamorphic schist, forcing the roots to draw water from deep below. The cuvée comes from a historic plot planted in 1954, naturally yielding very low quantities.
Winemaking and aging
For the Iglesia Vella 2023 cuvée, whole bunches are gently pressed. Fermentation begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in 500-litre barrels with extended contact on the lees.
Grape variety
Grenache Gris (100%)
