Description

An ample and aromatic red wine from the Côtes du Rhône

The estate

Domaine E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, succeeded him in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation of the family perpetuates the heritage and values of this iconic familial house in the Rhône Valley wine region.

Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage…E. Guigal overlooks a mosaic of vineyards located on numerous appellations which form a range of wines with impeccable quality.

Throughout the vintages, the E. Guigal house has experienced significant development, notably becoming the owner of the famous Château d’Ampuis in 1995 as well as several winegrowing estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine and even Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-de-Pape).

The vineyard

This Côtes du Rhône 2017 by E. Guigal is produced from a vineyard of around 35 years old, which soils are made up of sediments, granite limestones, alluvium and pebbles.

Winemaking and ageing

Following the harvests, the grapes are vinified in a traditional manner. The fermentations and long macerations are carried out with temperatures controlled. Ageing, which lasts for a year and a half, is partly carried out in oak casks.

Blend

This Côtes du Rhône 2017 by E. Guigal is the product of a blend between Syrah (50%), Grenache (40%) and Mourvèdre (10%).

Tasting

Colour

Nose

The nose unveils intense notes of black fruit and spices.

Palate

Ample and warm, this wine seduces with its perfect balance between fine tannins and a rich aromatic palette which confer great elegance.
