James Suckling

Dark fruits with hints of chocolate, walnut, sweet tobacco and dry soil. Medium-bodied with polished, slightly chewy tannins and a chalky texture. Firm, compact and focused with a tight finish. Second wine of Chateau Camensac. Try from 2025.

Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, light ochre rim. Delicate nougat, a hint of black cherries, tobacco nuances, inviting bouquet. Medium body, delicately leafy savouriness, somewhat broad, currant touch, vegetal aftertaste, slightly astringent finish. (25/1).

Yves Beck

Closerie de Camensac stands out for its linear, harmonious character. Everything is in balance with supportive tannins, while the acidity provides structure. It deserves a bit of development, but can be enjoyed in its youth. A tasty, vigorous wine.

Description

A rich and delicious Haut-Médoc Second Wine

The estate

Owned by the Merlaut family since 2005, Château de Camensac was built in the 18th century in the Haut-Médoc appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Significant investments have gone into this 1855 5th Grand Cru Classé, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, which enabled the estate to equip itself with the required tools. Château de Camensac now stands out as an essential name among the great Bordeaux wines.

The vineyard

An unmissable reference among Haut-Médoc wines, the Château de Camensac vineyard stretches across 86 hectares of land on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. It is these two types of soil that gives the estate's wines their unique quality.

The vintage

The mild weather during the first few weeks of the year gave way to heavy rainfall from mid-April until June. These conditions increased the pressure of mildew, which was then slowed down thanks to the heat during the summer months.

The wine

La Closerie de Camensac is the Château de Camensac's Second Wine.

Blend

Merlot (60%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (40%).
