Juicy plum and an intriguing range of dry spices define this inviting, complex red. Chalky mineral notes and energy keep everything in line, with charred herbs and sandalwood smoke wafting through. The tannins are nicely softened yet still provide a well-built frame. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2028. 25 cases imported.

A solid, well-built, flavorful and lively red with aromas of dark plums, dried leaves, Mediterranean herbs, baking spices and some meat. Full-bodied with plush tannins. There is an agile character at the center with a mineral frame. Well structured and focused, with a textured and well-weighted finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. The 2020s are in the same ballpark as the 2021s, if not a touch more rounded and supple. The 2020 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Latour De France Visitare Interiore Terrae (60% Grenache and 40% Syrah) offers lots of both red and black berry fruits as well as complex garrigue, pepper, spice, and subtle leather nuances. These carry to a medium- to full-bodied, round, layered, fruit-driven beauty with fine tannins and flawless balance.

The property

Established since 1808 in Tain-L’Hermitage, the House of M. Chapoutier today embodies the elite of the greatest names in wines from the Rhône Valley.

As a winemaker and merchant, Michel Chapoutier has managed over the vintages to lead this family business to the top. The wines of Maison Chapoutier are recognized for their refinement and high quality by the finest connoisseurs beyond borders. A man of many hats, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken up the torch of this iconic house, overseeing a vineyard of over 350 hectares across the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhône Valley.

Over the vintages, Maison M. Chapoutier has developed its expertise within vineyards in Alsace, Roussillon, and Australia.

The vineyard

Bila-Haut V.I.T. 2020 from M. Chapoutier is a wine from Côtes du Roussillon Villages made from vines planted on clay-limestone and schist soils.

Vinification and aging

Hand-harvested. Long maceration (4 weeks) accompanied by punch-downs to promote optimal extraction. Parcel-by-parcel aging, in vats for the grenache and in demi-muids for the syrah. The blend is made after 18 months of aging.
