Domaine Paul Jaboulet-Aîné Hermitage La Petite Chapelle is a legendary cru and offers a very rich and elegant 2012 vintage.
Created out of a single-grape variety, Syrah, this vintage exhibits a purple-tinted dark colour which marks the glass. On the nose, it gives off brightness and one can find mineral notes, as well as violet, forest fruits and mild spices hints. On airing, blackberry and wild black cherry fragrances pair with soft, smoky notes. The 2012 Hermitage La Petite Chapelle is very elegant and accessible. It carries a delicacy reminding of Côte-Rôtie wines. Its finish develops floral, spicy notes, and offers a mouth-feel of an excellent tannic softness.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
While billed as a second wine, there's nothing inferior about the 2012 Hermitage la Petite Chapelle. A terrific wine in its own right, it offers classic currants, black raspberry, smoked earth, ground herbs and subtle meatiness to go with a ripe, full-bodied, textured and balanced style on the palate. Despite having a slightly upfront style, it has ample mid-palate concentration and building tannin. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.
